JAMB exam malpractice code 2024 – Prohibited items in exam hall
Exam malpractice is one of the many issues faced by many Examination bodies and the educational sector as a whole. JAMB Exam Malpractice is not an exemption.
For this reason JAMB has some prohibited items that cannot be taken into the exam hall, as well as some codes of malpractices.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has banned the use of 16 items in the upcoming 2024 exams and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The list of prohibited items has been shared by the JAMB UTME Monitoring Groups in conjunction with the members of the Civil Society Group.
NB: Candidates are hereby advised that a breach in any of the codes below will result in the Board withholding their results.
You are hereby informed that the Board has provided each candidate with a spot on the screen that candidates cannot see but examiners can see and mark one of the following codes if required.
If a candidate is guilty of any of the below offenses, the examiner need only to enter one of the malpractice codes into their on-screen question and that’s settles the whole thing.
Codes for JAMB Exam malpractice for 2024 UTME
Below are the exam malpractice codes and their interpretations, as well as the prohibited items during JAMB and UTME exams.

JAMB Prohibited Items For 2024 UTME
To ensure that the JAMB and UTME exams are in line with global best practices, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has banned the use of the following items during exams.
Candidates are hereby advised that it is in their best interest NOT to bring THESE ITEMS near the examination venue not to talk of using it in the UTME examination hall.
Any violation of this policy would prevent candidates from taking the exam. Below are the prohibited items for JAMB and UTME exams.

- SMART BUTTONS
- WATCHES
- PEN/BIRO
- MOBILE PHONES OR SIMILAR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
- SPY READING GLASSES THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED
- CALCULATORS OR SIMILAR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
- USB, CD, HARD DISKS, AND SIMILAR STORAGE DEVICES
- BOOKS OR READING OR WRITING MATERIALS
- HEARING PROTECTION OR EARPIECE
- INK/PEN READER
- BLUETOOTH DEVICES
- CAMERAS
- SMART LENSES
- RECORDER
- SMART RINGS/JEWELRY
- KEY HOLDER
- ATM CARDS
- DRAFT
- OTHER ITEMS LIKE CAP, BRACELET ETC. ARE ALSO FORBIDDEN.
The civil society group is one of the groups created by the Chancellor of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, to help with the follow-up to UTME 2024 and curb JAMB exam malpractice.
At JAMB UTME Proctoring Groups, Proctoring Groups may inspect eyeglasses or similar devices, and if they are believe that such an item might compromise the sanctity of the Proctoring Group, the Proctor must confiscate them.
If an exam officer (board member or ad hoc staff) or authorized person comes across any of these prohibited items in the exam room, such a compromising act will be treated as willful sabotage of the exam and followed by the required sanction.
Is JAMB Exam Malpractice Worth It?
Exam malpractice is not a good practice, whether you’re writing JAMB UTME or any of exam. Getting caught could have a great negative effect in your education, career and personal life.
Due to the way JAMB is structured now, it will be very difficult for anyone to cheat and easier for cheaters to get caught. It is not even worth it.
