Just like WAEC, and NECO selected a few subjects to fulfill the requirements, you are also limited to some subjects if you want to take the UTME exam.

Every candidate is expected to write a total of 4 subjects in JAMB.

As we know, JAMB is responsible for administering the major entrance exam for students who want to continue their education at the college of their choice, be it university, college, or teacher training college.

How many subjects are written in JAMB?

The total number of subjects to be written in Jamb 2024 is four. These subjects include the mandatory use of English and three other topics related to your area of interest.

I continue to use the word area of interest because not all courses require the same combination of subjects, for example, pharmacy and engineering, although these two courses are science courses, students wishing to study either of these two will not enroll in the same subject. Has JAMB Added Two More Subjects?

A rumor has been circulating online that the number of courses students are expected to take for JAMB has increased by two.

This news came as a result of JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede announcing that two new subjects would be added to the Jamb subject list.

These two subjects are:

Sports and health education and
Computer

The message came like this…

“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has included Physical Education and Health Education and Computer Studies in next year’s Unified Tertiary matriculation exam. The board said the two issues would help expand opportunities for candidates to access higher education. JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede said so during an interview with reporters after receiving an Excellence Award from the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).“

Some people have confused this with the addition of two new subjects for students, adding two (2) to the total number of courses.

This news has in no way implied that the total number of subjects a student will take now includes compulsory Physical Education, Health Education and Computer Science. A total of 4 subjects are written in JAMB, and that’s it.

The only compulsory subject that every student, regardless of their area of interest (science, arts, or social sciences), is required to write on JAMB is JAMB Use of English.
