Most students don’t have a clear picture of what they want to study in the university even before processing registration and admission. It is advisable to seek out knowledgeable individuals who have passed through this stage and can walk you through it.
The journey towards gaining admission into a tertiary institution isn’t an easy one, so you must be careful in each step you take towards achieving your aim. You need to do your research on the course and institution you will choose to ensure that you have the requirements.
Reasons for JAMB Change of Course/Institution
- Inability to meet the institution cut-off mark: This is the first and common factor that prompts a change of course and institution. During JAMB registration, you will have to choose a 1st choice and 2nd choice for both course and institution. But after seeing your JAMB result, and you probably didn’t meet the tertiary cut-off mark or the course cut-off mark, you may have to change to a course or institution that fits with your result.
- Change of career: Even after passing the cut-off mark for a particular course, a candidate can decide to change their profession based on personal reasons or advice.
- Registering the wrong institution or course: During JAMB registration, mistakes like choosing the wrong institution or course while registering are common. If you’re a victim of this, you can fix it by taking the data correction form.
- Wrong UTME subjects combination: When sitting for the UTME, you are given questions based on the subjects you chose while registering. If you mistakenly put in an error subject, you can change it before or after the examination and it will cause you to change your course because you have written the error examination. For instance, a science student who wants to study medicine will have to write questions based on English, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry but if mistakenly put in for Mathematics instead of Biology, he will have to change his course to fit in the registered UTME subjects
- Increase in tuition fee: if the school chose before increases its fee to what a candidate can’t afford, he or she will have to change to an institution that fits his or her bidding and capacity
