In Nigerian universities, the most common O’level requirement for admission is a minimum of 5 credits including maths and English language. However, there are universities that accept D7 in WAEC for admission in Nigeria. Shocking?
Before a student is said to have passed WAEC, it’s usually assumed they got credits in all the subjects relevant to their preferred course of study.
The most accepted grades from Nigeria universities for consideration for admission include:
- A1
- B2
- B3
- C4
- C5
- C6
These 6 grades are the most commonly accepted grades needed for a student’s core subjects so that the student can be considered for admission. This article however focuses on Universities that accept D7 in WAEC for admission in Nigeria.
NB: D7 is the next grade after C6
Consideration of D7 for admission into Nigerian universities
In recent years, there have been some adjustments in the educational system and this shift in the system resulted in some flexibility which gave rise to universities that don’t mind taking in students who got a D7 in subjects relevant to the student’s preferred course of study.
Nigerian universities extended the flexibility to a lot of courses, over a lot of subjects. This means that some universities can admit students who have a D7 in core subjects like the English language, mathematics, biology, and the like.
This is a decision taken by the schools, and it’s being respected by the Nigerian university commission (NUC), which legitimized their decision to take in such students with D7.
