Benefits of private universities in Nigeria
Besides the low JAMB cut-off mark for private universities in Nigeria, there are other benefits that you will enjoy if you get into a Nigerian private university.
The benefits include:
1. The almost zero exclusion of strikes from the system: the private university system is a system that can be taken as a non-Nigerian educational system, because of the zero-tolerance or no existence of strikes which are bound to disrupt studies, as usually seen with the public universities.
2. Assurance of safety: there is little or no reason for violence to erupt in a private university in Nigeria, because the management is serious with their setup and always on their beck and call to ease their fears and provide solutions for them.
It is rare to hear reports of violent protests from private universities in Nigeria, and there is low tolerance for cultism, hence issues pertaining to cultism and destruction of property and loss of lives are not treated lightly in the private university sector in Nigeria.
3. The unique process of learning: this is supposed to be the norm in all schools but the high populations in many public schools don’t make this possible.
The population in the private university sector is not as plenty as in other sectors. So the lecturers there have the obligation of helping each student through his academic problems, and this method of teaching enables the student to have some sort of aid or remedy for his academic weakness. This kind of learning is almost impossible in the public university sector, but the lecturer-to-student ratio is a scary one.
4. A faster academic calendar: the private university sector in Nigeria has a fast academic calendar as one of its benefits. As mentioned earlier, strikes are non-existent, so there is virtually nothing to slow down the learning processes in a private university.
5. Well-equipped Classrooms: the different places of learning in a private university don’t lack the necessary equipment, whether it is a laboratory or a lecture hall. The school management, due to the competition in the educational system; set up the necessary structures in place to be able to have a chance at competing on a high level with other schools, and in this way guarantee their students a chance to premium education.
6. Ability to study choice course: the private system in Nigeria can boast of being able to offer their students the chance to study their dream course in their schools, other than being redirected into other courses, which is very rampant in public universities. This occurrence is negated in the private universities in Nigeria.
7. Improved welfare system: the students of private universities always have a higher chance of getting their grievances noticed and solved at a moment’s notice than their counterparts in public universities. So this is a head taller attribute of a private university that will make any serious-minded person consider going to a private university.
