WAEC timetable for science students
The WAEC examination is one of the top examinations that is conducted for final-year secondary school students in Nigeria. This premier examination body’s timeline is controlled by the WAEC timetable.
WAEC timetable for science students is a document, mostly computed into a tabular form containing all the subjects that will be offered in the WAEC examination, and at which time each examination will be held. Specifically for science students.
The WAEC examination timetable contains the list of available subjects for all students irrespective of their preferred study area.
Subject Areas in Nigerian Secondary Schools
There are three recognized subject areas in the WAEC examination, and in regular secondary schools in Nigeria. They are:
- Science
- Arts
- Commercial.
However, in this article, we will be focusing on the subjects in the WAEC timetable, in which science students are to be examined.
WAEC timetable for science students 2024
On a normal day, the WAEC timetable is not subdivided into different sections for students of different subject areas, but there are some clear distinctions in the subjects which are offered by students from the three subject areas.
There are subjects that every student, irrespective of their subject area must sit for, they are:
- English language
- Mathematics
- Civic Education*
These three subjects are mandatory subjects for every WAEC candidate.
On that same note, there are subjects that are offered by only science students.
So the purpose of this post is to talk about those subjects, and the days their examinations will be held in the 2024 WAEC timetable.
Firstly, we are going to list out all the subjects that a typical science student is likely to register for in the WAEC examination. The subjects include:
- English language
- Mathematics
- Civic Education
- Physics.
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Agricultural science
- Geography
- Further Mathematics
- Economics
- Languages (Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba).
- Trade subjects.**
In the WAEC examination, only a maximum of 9 subjects and a minimum of 8 subjects are to be registered. So, from this list, every science student is expected to choose either 8 or 9 subjects of his choice, while paying attention to his core science subjects (which must include English and mathematics).
So the constituents of the WAEC timetable for science students will include the exam date, time, and allocated period for the above-listed 11 subjects.
NB: *: Civic Education has been made compulsory for every student, irrespective of his subject area.
**: WAEC has mandated every student to register at least one trade subject in the WAEC examination.
Below is a table showing the WAEC timetable for a regular science student.

Frequently asked questions about WAEC timetable for science students
Is it compulsory for science students to register for marketing?
No.
It’s not compulsory that every science student must register for marketing in the WAEC examination, rather it’s compulsory for every science student to register for at least one trade subject, of which marketing is one of them. So, trade subjects are compulsory to register, but marketing is not compulsory as there are more than 30 trade subjects to choose from.
Is there a possibility for a science student to register for 2 trade subjects?
Reasons to register 2 trade subjects are best known to a student, but the WAEC recommended number of trade subjects to be registered remains one.Â
If you can register two trade subjects, and your core subjects, then you can register two trade subjects.
WAEC cannot control your choice of what you register, all the same.
Which day will WAEC 2024 start?
Tuesday, 3rd April, 2024
WAEC timetable for science students is just a miniature version of the official WAEC timetable, to narrow down science students’ focus to the core subjects they are sitting for.
It’s important for their focus, and to avoid a mixup of examination dates, because the WAEC examination timetable is not a specialized one for any subject area, so every science student had to pick out their subjects from that pile, until this article was created.
I just hope the necessary subjects for WAEC science students and their scheduled dates and times are all included in this article. More information about other subjects and their examination time can be gotten from the official WAEC timetable. Good luck.
