University of Benin- All you need to know about UNIBEN 2024

University of Benin, Benin City (UNIBEN) is one of the most popular universities in Nigeria at the moment. 

The top-rated university is a federal university located along the Lagos-Benin expressway, Benin City, Edo state, and is a school that both the students and alumni are proud to identify with, due to its rich history, educational standard, and popularity. So, it is no brainer when it ranks among the universities with the highest applicants in JAMB.

It was founded on the 1st of July 1971 and boasts of two campuses (The main campus at Ugbowo and the second campus at Ekehuan), plus 15 faculties and over 70,000 students (according to Uniben SUG public posts).

Resumption date  

The University of Benin has set its 2024/2025 resumption date to be 24th of October 2024. So, both new and old students are expected to be on campus on or before the said date.

UNIBEN Admission requirement

Every aspirant of Uniben must satisfy certain requirements before they can be promoted to bona fide students of the University of Benin. The requirements vary from candidates seeking admission through UTME (WAEC cert holders), and those seeking admission with Direct Entry.  

For UTME candidates

  • Candidates would be expected to obtain a minimum of 200 marks in the examination. Candidates seeking admission into any degree programme should possess the University Matriculation requirements of five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language at not more than two sittings in WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE, NABTEB or their University of Benin recognized equivalent. 
  • For candidates seeking admission into Medicine and Surgery they must obtain five ‘O’ level credit passes in one sitting.

For Direct Entry candidates

  1. They need the ‘O’ level requirements above, just like UTME candidates
  2. Relevant passes in the Advanced Level General Certificate or Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) or Nigeria Certificate In Education (NCE), or Ordinary National Diploma (OND), or Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification for admission in the University as well as their respective departments.
