The University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, commonly known as UNIABUJA is an institution that is reputed for its landmass and its cheap school fees. Who doesn’t like a school like UNIABUJA?
This tertiary institution is located in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and is home to over forty-five thousand students from over five hundred students from its inception in 1988.
The University of Abuja is home to three colleges namely: College of Arts and Education; College of Law, Management and Social Sciences; and College of Science and Agriculture.
Resumption date for UNIABUJA new and old students
UNIABUJA’s official resumption date has been declared to be the 23rd of October 2024. This means that every student of this prestigious institution must be in the school on or before the said date. Wait are you planning on extending the holiday?

Admission requirement for Direct Entry and UTME aspirants
Every candidate that wants to pass the gates University of Abuja Gwagwalada as an official student of the school must satisfy certain criteria. As expected, everybody cannot attend this prestigious federal University, so the lucky ones must satisfy the below-listed requirements to stand a chance of pursuing an undergraduate program in a higher institution. The requirements vary between SSCE and Direct Entry candidates, as each group’s requirements for admission are different.
Admission requirements for SSCE candidates
- Credit passes in five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics which must be obtained by a candidate at no more than two (2) sittings. Note: Three (3) credit passes must be in subjects relevant to the degree course applied for.
- Candidates must also get an acceptable score in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, and the Post-UTME screening organized by the University.
Admission requirements for Direct Entry candidates
- For a start, you need to have at least 5 credit passes in your O’level result (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) including English and Mathematics not more than two (2) sittings before you can study at the University of Abuja.
- As a Direct Entry candidate, you must purchase the Direct Entry form through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and UNIABUJA.
- You must have chosen the correct JAMB subject combination for your course.
- UNIABUJA must be your first choice of Institution.
- If you do not participate in the UNIABUJA screening exercise you will not consider for admission.
- You must have reached the age of 16 by October this year.
- UNIABUJA accepts (First Class Degree, Second Class, and Upper credit) but in related fields.
- UNIABUJA also accepts a minimum of Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), and other Advanced Level Certificates depending on the course.
- In some cases, UNIABUJA accepts JUPEB and IJMB A’level results but you must have a good result before applying.
School fees
Every school has a source of funding, and UNIABUJA is not exempted as its students are mandated to pay school fees for every academic session. The school fees vary between the new students and the returning students of the school.
As of today, the current school fees of the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada is ₦61,340 for the new and ₦45,340 for old students. Any change in school fees for the new students is communicated through the school portal (www.uniabuja.edu.ng/eportals).
