How to Register for JAMB Direct Entry
One of the ways to gain admission into the university is through Direct Entry after you have finished a program from the Polytechnic, College of Education, IJMB, JUPEB, Cambridge, A Level, and so on. So let’s walk you through how to register for JAMB Direct Entry.
The JAMB Direct Entry Form is for NCE, ND, IJMB, JUPEB, Cambridge, or NABTEB, BSC, and HND holders who wish to continue their studies in their previous or related courses at a university of interest.
When you have completed or are about to complete your NCE, ND, IJMB, JUPEB, etc., you can apply and register for JAMB Direct Entry. By collecting this form you can apply directly to the 200 level 200 or 300 level of your desired course at any university of your choice without having to sit for UTME.

Requirements to register for JAMB Direct Entry
Candidates with any of the following qualifications may be considered for JAMB Direct Entry admission:
- Minimum of O’Level credit in 5 subjects indicated in your result in no more than two sittings of at least two required subjects (for each discipline) at the Advanced level. No subject is counted twice at both the Ordinary Level and the Advanced Level.
- Two Passes (in required subjects for each discipline) in the IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB, or High School Advanced Placement exam with SSCE/GCE, NTS/NBC, or credit equivalents in three other subjects. Education may be accepted as a third A’ Level subject.
- Pass major in NCE with SCE, NTC/NBC, or equivalent credits in THREE other subjects (mainly for educational courses) and ND.
- Minimum of lower credit qualification in National Diploma or Higher National Diploma and O’Level requirements.
- Title (First Class/ Second Class Superior) in related fields.
- Direct Entry candidates must purchase the Direct Entry form through the Joint Admission and Enrollment Board (JAMB) and the portal of their school of choice. This means that after you purchase the JAMB Direct Entry form, you’ll have to wait for your school’s Direct Entry form to come out.
How to register for the JAMB Direct Entry (DE)
There are currently two procedures for applying for JAMB for Direct Entry.
- Fresh JAMB Direct Entry Registration: New JAMB Direct Entry applications are for candidates who have completed their courses e.g. ND, NCE, HND, etc., but do not want to attempt re-admission via UTME. They just want to cross straight to 200 level without getting the JAMB UTME form. Candidates must have been offered admission by JAMB based on their previous qualifications. If they are not offered admission through JAMB, they must have completed JAMB regularization for JAMB part-time registration to obtain a valid JAMB registration number.
- Procedure for fresh Direct Entry Registration
- Text the NIN followed by your 11-digit NIN as a text from your unique GSM number to 55019/ 66019 (e.g. NIN 87901234567 to 55019/ 66019). The text costs N50.
- Once charged, a verification/ profile code will be sent to your phone.
- Use the code to purchase the DE/PIN form through JAMB’s form sales portals. The price of the form is N3,500.
- After purchasing the form (PIN), go to the nearest CBT center for full registration and biometrics with your PIN. You will be charged N700 here.
- Go to the CBT center with your SSCE results and highest qualification results and scan and upload, unless you are using awaiting results. You must return to a CBT center to upload your result when released. This must be done before admission can be offered to you.
- Application for Direct Entry via upgrade: This is for you if you had previously registered for UTME but also had ND, NCE, IJMB, etc. Then change your mind to get the JAMB Direct Entry form. You cannot register for UTME and Direct Entry (DE) in the same year. Therefore you should only upgrade UTME to DE.
- JAMB now allows candidates with existing UTME profiles to upgrade their profiles from a year UTME to a Direct Entry (DE) of the same year. There is no charge for this at the nearest JAMB office. However, upgrade registration can only be done at JAMB offices across the country.
- In other words, you don’t have to buy a new DE form. They will simply log into your existing JAMB UTME profile and upgrade to Direct Entry (DE).
- Note:
- This is possible because all your O’Level results, fingerprints, passport photos, etc. were already in the UTME profile. It is therefore not necessary to register for a new profile.
- Just go to any JAMB office and tell them that you are a UTME applicant and want to upgrade your current UTME to DE.
- The board said that direct entry applicants must provide the JAMB registration numbers that they used to register with UTME.
